What is Fractal Art? A fractal is a geometric object that displays self-similarity. Because fractals appear similar at all levels of magnification, they are often considered to be infinitely complex. Benoît B. Mandelbrot (1925-2010) who is considered the father of fractal geometry, created the now famous Mandelbrot Set that is well known world wide. People often think they look like ink blots or bugs. Fractal patterns appear in nature and can be simulated using mathematical formula called fractal geometry. Some examples of fractals in nature are such objects as clouds, mountain ranges, lightning bolts, coastlines, snow flakes, leaves, ferns, peacock feathers, pineapple skin and sea shells. My Fractal Art images were created with the assistance of fractal-generating computer software. I set parameters in the software, execute the possibly lengthy mathematical calculations that create a very detailed impression, and then extract what I feel is an artistic image from the end result.
